Okay, I admit it. I have a major soft spot for animal stories of any kind.

Usually, it’s dog stories—which is part of the reason I wrote Road Trip Rescue. I can’t help but read dog books and watch dog movies, even if I have that sinking feeling in my stomach they won’t have a happy ending.

But One Amazing Elephant (Amazon Affliate Link) by Linda Oatman High showed me that elephants can make for one of the best kinds of animal stories too. And this one had a wonderful ending . . . but, of course, I won’t say any more about that.

One Amazing Elephant is the story of a twelve-year-old girl named Lily and her grandfather’s elephant, Queenie Grace.

Lily adores her grandparents, but she’s terrified of Queenie Grace, and she isn’t a fan of the circus life that her grandparents and her mother live. She lives with her father, and she prefers it that way.

Then one day, Lily’s grandfather passes away. Lily goes to Florida for the funeral and learns she and Queenie Grace are mourning together. What follows is a touching, compelling story of unexpected friendship and new beginnings.

Also, it’s fun to see the narrative unfold from two different perspectives. Lily and Queenie Grace take turns telling this story, which brings it to life in a unique and beautiful way.

One thing I loved about One Amazing Elephant was how Lily’s life changed forever when she faced her fear of Queenie Grace.

We all have things we are afraid of—maybe elephants, or maybe other things. Are we letting those fears control our days? Are we letting them dictate our relationships and our experiences?

What are you afraid of? And how could your life change if you faced that fear?

I believe beautiful things can happen when we are courageous. Transformation can offer. Unexpected friendships can change the course of our lives.

Just like it did for Lily.

Never forget . . . you are wonderfully created.

Love,
Becca
