About two weeks ago, life changed for many of us in the U.S.

Schools closed. Businesses closed. People ravaged the bread and pasta and toilet paper aisles of grocery stores. Churches put their services online. Hand sanitizer became as important to us as our cell phones. We stopped shaking hands and giving hugs.

A virus came, and life changed.

But you know who didn’t change?

God.

God didn’t change. God is still worthy of our trust. In God, we can still have hope and joy, no matter how weird things get on this earth.

And two weeks ago, just as life was changing, I came across Psalm 91 in my daily Bible reading plan. It couldn’t have been a more timely message. The whole psalm feels awfully relevant right now, and I’d recommend you look it up and read it in a few different translations to get a feel for how much God is with us.

But for now, here are verses 1-4 (from the New Living Translation): “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”

These verses hold a great promise. Not that we will never get sick or never have hard times or never face any sorrow—but that God is with us and we can trust Him.

Always.

God is our shelter and our resting place. In His arms, we don’t have to constantly be checking the news or scrolling social media or spinning our wheels in spirals of anxiety and overwhelm.

He is our refuge. Our safety. Our home.

And we can trust Him.

He will rescue us and protect us and cover us with His wings. His faithful promises are our armor in times of adversity.

Of course, God rescues us and protects us and shows us His presence in different ways. Sometimes, He answers our prayers in exactly the way we expect and hope for. Other times, His answers don’t feel much like answers. He doesn’t always heal the way we want Him to heal. He doesn’t always protect us in the way we understand the idea of protection.

But God’s promises are firm. Faithful. True.

God is with us.

God is ever deserving of our trust.

God is our rescuer and protector and place of shelter.

Let’s rest and trust in Him during this trying time.

And never forget… you are onederfully created by Him who saves.

Love,
Becca
