Tired. Lonely. Afraid. Anxious. Bored. Overwhelmed. Uncertain.
Surprisingly calm.
Unsurprisingly not-so-calm.
We’re in new and uncharted territory in these times of social distancing and self-isolation. And we all face the unknown with a myriad of different feelings. Most of us have probably felt more than one of the emotions listed above at some point in the last few weeks.
But we have the light of hope inside of us, even in our strange new normal.
There is strength to be found, because we have a rock, a foundation.
Consider the words of David in Psalm 18:28-33: “You, Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall. As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights.”
Remember the children’s song “This Little Light of Mine”? It’s all about letting the light of Jesus shine through us and to those around us. But right now, our lights might not feel like they are shining quite so brightly. If we are anxious or overwhelmed or fearful or doubtful, if we are looking to the news instead of to Jesus to fill us up, our lights might dim.
On our own, we don’t always have the strength to keep our light shining.
But God has the power to keep our lamps burning.
We love a God who can turn the darkness in our lives into light.
With God’s help, we can scale a wall, we can do the impossible. We can have hope in what the news shows as a hopeless time. We can feel safe when the world refuses to guarantee us any safety.
Even though we are dealing with a lot of emotions, we can trust that God’s way is perfect, His word is flawless, and His promises are true. God is worthy of our trust. He is our rock and our strength.
With God at our side, we can stand on the heights, we can stand firm in these uncertain times, and we can shine the light of Jesus’s love to this broken world.
It’s okay to feel tired. Lonely. Afraid. Anxious. Bored. Overwhelmed. Uncertain.
Surprisingly calm. Unsurprisingly not-so-calm.
But don’t live in those emotions. Don’t get stuck in those places.
Don’t let any of those feelings put out your light.
Let’s ask God to take all the darkness, all the fear, all the painful emotions in our lives—and turn them into light, trust, and hope.
Because God is our rock and our strength, and His power knows no end.
And never forget… you are onederfully created in Him.
Love,
Becca
