We’re halfway through our series on thankfulness, but today’s post is extra special because tomorrow is Thanksgiving! Before we know it, our families will be gathered around tables with way too much food, celebrating what God is doing in our lives.
And while we celebrate this holiday in different ways, we all have things to be thankful for, tomorrow and every day.
I decided to share 1 Chronicles 16:31-34 as this week’s Bible passage: “Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let them say among the nations, ‘The Lord reigns!’ Let the sea resound, and all that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them! Let the trees of the forest sing, let them sing for joy before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
I love these verses because they show a depth and magnitude to the splendor of our Creator. Even though the word “thankfulness” is never mentioned, every action of creation in this passage serves to thank its Creator.
The heavens rejoice. The earth is glad. Heaven and earth declare to the nations the reigning power of the Lord.
The sea and all the creatures within it resound. The fields and everything in them are jubilant. Even the trees sing for joy.
Listen to those verbs: rejoicing, showing gladness, declaring, resounding, showing jubilation, singing for joy. Aren’t those words such beautiful pictures of what it means to show true gratitude? Imagine if this was how we constantly approached our Creator.
When I go into the presence of my Savior, I want to shower Him in jubilation, in songs of adoration, in praises, in gladness. Maybe you’re already doing this, but it’s definitely something I personally need to work on.
My quiet time with God doesn’t always need to be quiet. Yes, it’s good and important to sit in silence and listen to God. But there is also room to be loud and jubilant! There is abundant space to cry out my thankfulness to God along with the heavens and the earth and the sea and the trees and all of creation.
We have so, so much to be thankful for in God. Are we thanking Him with the passion and enthusiasm and energy He deserves? Or are we just treating gratitude as another item on our be-a-good-Christian checklists?
I want to thank God with a genuine heart. If all of creation is shouting His praises, I don’t want to be left out.
Dear God, THANK YOU! Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you for reigning over us with power and justice. Thank you for your goodness. Thank you for your love that endures forever. Please let me never stop singing your praises. In Jesus’ beautiful name, Amen.
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving tomorrow, friend. And never forget… you are onederfully created.
Love,
Becca
