Isn’t it funny how different we all are?

Some of us love nature and want to spend absolutely every minute outside. Others enjoy doing hair and makeup and stocking our closets with the trendiest clothes. And still others prefer watching movies or playing video games or spending time alone.

The list goes on. The point is, we’re all different. We love and enjoy different things.

And yet, we can find friendship even with those who are entirely different from us.

Every Soul a Star (Amazon Affiliate Link) by Wendy Mass tells about three kids who learn exactly that.

Every Soul a Star switches between the stories of three main characters: Ally, Bree, and Jack. Ally is the nature lover, and to her, Moon Shadow Campground is home. Bree wants to be a model when she grows up—life at a campground is at the bottom of her list of desirable things. And Jack is a loner who finds himself spending the summer in a way he never expected.

These three characters are vastly different, and they come from different places. But as people from around the world prepare to gather at Moon Shadow to experience the lunar eclipse, Ally, Bree, and Jack will not be strangers much longer. And their lives will change as their perspectives intersect.

Every Soul a Star is a feel-good, heartwarming read that blends together a lot of elements.

Science, nature, friendships, the challenge of transition, the value of finding a place to belong. I think all of us can find a place to connect to these themes, whether we’re currently in the midst of transition, or if we remember a time when we weren’t quite sure where we belonged.

I’m encouraged by the fact that these characters had their lives totally uprooted—and yet, they experienced so much good along the way.

Can you see the good behind the upheaval in your own life?

The beauty in the transition?

The sense of belonging that’s been waiting for you the whole time?

Because it’s there, friend. You do belong. You always have, even when it doesn’t feel like it. That’s what Ally, Bree, and Jack learn, too—but I won’t give you specifics, because I sure don’t like spoilers!
