Last year, I had the joy of interviewing Rachel Pellegrino, founder and publisher of Little Lamb Books, an award-winning independent publisher of faith-based children’s books. (You can read her previous interview here.)
A few weeks ago, Rachel reached out to me with some exciting news… Little Lamb Books is publishing its first devotional. It’s called All God’s Creatures: 60 Days of Devotions for Animal-Loving Kids.
Through this 172-page devotional with bright full-color illustrations, Little Lamb Books hopes to encourage families to spend time together learning about God’s goodness, to foster a heart for God’s creation, and to help kids love who God created them to be.
They are hosting a Kickstarter campaign as the pre-order campaign in hopes of also being able to create a companion journal for the devotional.
In the interview below, Rachel talked about the inspiration behind All God’s Creatures, the collaboration involved in its creation, and her prayer for this project.

What is the inspiration behind Little Lamb Books’ new children’s devotional, All God’s Creatures?
Rachel: “As a small publishing house, we realized that we did not have a non-fiction title that was something families could read any time of the year. I wanted to collaborate with our authors to create a devotional that would inspire families looking for a way to come together to read and reflect, especially as we begin a new school year.”
With contributions from over a dozen children’s book authors, it sounds like All God’s Creatures has been a collaborative project. What was it like to work with a team to create something like this?
Rachel: “The blessing of working with amazingly talented and creative authors is that you can go to them with a new idea and watch that idea develop into real pages full of wonderful encouragement for children. Of course, working with both Katie Wekall, illustrator, and Katie Risor, designer, meant we also had beautiful art and page layouts bringing our vision to life.”
What makes All God’s Creatures unique and meaningful?
Rachel: “All God’s Creators: 60 Days of Devotions for Animal-Loving Kids encourages habits of Scripture reading, prayer, and journaling. Families can pick and choose what order they want to go in and the devotional can be used any time of year and in any season. It’s the perfect tool to inspire young hearts to draw close to the Lord.”
Who will most enjoy reading All God’s Creatures?
Rachel: “Children ages 6-11 will love learning fun facts about familiar animals, but younger and older ages can enjoy learning Scripture and practicing prayer habits that will last a lifetime. Altogether, families will appreciate the time spent together reflecting on the character traits God created in each of us.”
What is your greatest prayer for how God will work through the publication of this devotional?
Rachel: “Our kiddos need encouragement to be who God made them to be, especially when surrounded by so many other voices telling them the opposite. My prayer is that these devotional entries will build confidence in each boy and girl that reads it, and that they will be encouraged to love who God uniquely designed them to be.”
How can we get our own copy of All God’s Creatures?
Rachel: “We are excited for the devotional to release this month, but even more excited for families to pre-order via a special Kickstarter campaign we are hosting that will allow them to receive extra perks for their pre-order. Anyone interested in purchasing can pre-order via this link until Monday, August 16 at 11:59 pm. After that, pre-orders will be available until September 14, 2021 through online stores like Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and other retailers.”
