There’s a song by Elevation Worship called Do It Again. The chorus (or maybe it’s the bridge—I’m not too sure of the difference) goes like this: “I’ve seen You move, come move the mountains. And I believe, I’ll see You do it again. You made a way, where there was no way. And I believe, I’ll see You do it again.”

This is a beautiful song—and not just because of the loveliness of the music itself. I find it to be such an important reminder. How often do we forget that God can and will do it again? How often do we forget His faithfulness?

My mind is immediately drawn to the story of Jesus feeding the four thousand in Matthew 15. This isn’t the same story as Jesus feeding the five thousand just a chapter earlier, in Matthew 14—but they are super similar.

In Matthew 14, Jesus feeds a crowd of five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish. In Matthew 15, he feeds a crowd of four thousand people with seven loaves of bread and a few small fish.

Both stories show that Jesus is unwilling to turn away those who are desperate for hope, truth, and healing. Both stories show Jesus as one filled with compassion for his people. And both stories show the disciples have a problem with trust.

In Matthew 15:33, after Jesus says he doesn’t want to send the people away hungry, his disciples answer, “Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?”

Did they already forget how Jesus fed the five thousand with just five loaves of bread and two fish? If he could do this, couldn’t he feed four thousand with even less? Why would they still question this man they’d given their lives to follow?

Jesus fed the people once. He could do it again, and he did do it again.

But still the disciples questioned.

God has moved mountains in our lives. He has made a way, even in the most impossible situations. Can we trust that our God can and will do it again?

It’s easy for us to give the disciples a hard time when we think about the story this way, but let’s face it… we’re no better. We do the exact same thing.

We forget that God can—and will—do it again. Whatever that means in our lives.

Can God heal? Will God provide a way? When will He show me what’s next? How do I know God will keep those promises He made in the Bible?

God’s healed before. He’s always provided a way. He’s led us before. He keeps His promises.

And He will do it again. But we have to trust in that. Trust that if God made a way before, He will do it again.

One of my favorite ways to remember that God will do it again when we trust in Him is by keeping a journal of all the ways He’s worked in my life. I love looking back at these stories of faithfulness. They help give me perspective when life seems hopeless.

Maybe you have another way, but I’d encourage you to remember how God has been faithful in your life. And use those memories to trust that He can and will do it again.

And never forget… you are onederfully created.

Love,
Becca
