I love being on launch teams for books I can’t wait to share with others.
A launch team, also called a street team, is a group of people who are excited about a book and want to help the author get the word out.
When Anna Rose Johnson asked me to be on her launch team for her debut novel The Star that Always Stays, I didn’t know what to expect. But as soon as I had a chance to read the ARC (advanced reader copy) on my Kindle, I devoured the whole story in a weekend.
If you love middle-grade novels that are compelling, hope-filled, and inspired by true family history, you should definitely pick up a copy of The Star that Always Stays (Amazon Affiliate Link) by Anna Rose Johnson.
The Star that Always Stays is the story of a girl named Norvia who just moved to the city, where she’s supposed to hide her Ojibwe heritage, get used to life with a new stepfather and stepbrother, and try to fit in.
Norvia struggles to navigate high school, make new friends, and enjoy her new life while she discovers a love of reading. But the shadows of her parents’ divorce and racism present a real challenge. Does she really have to hide who she is in order to get people to like her?
Once I started this book, I didn’t want to put it down. The fact that Norvia’s story is directly inspired by Anna Rose Johnson’s family history makes it even better.
But best of all, the pages of this story are filled with all the reasons to find joy, even when life is hard.
We can find joy in our families and in our friends and in our communities. But sometimes, those things feel shaky, and they go through changes.
But some things never change. When we can embrace who we are, even in the midst of life’s uncertainties, we can find joy. There is abundant gladness in knowing who God has created us to be.
We don’t have to hide who we are. And when we embrace who God created us to be, we can more easily find our people and our lifestyle and our place in the world. It comes full circle. And we see that in Norvia’s story, too.
And never forget … like Norvia, you are wonderfully created.
Love,
Becca
