I love adventure.

I find myself hungry for it. The word “wanderlust” pretty well describes how I feel sometimes: an incredibly strong desire to travel.

A lust for wandering. A greed for adventure.

The truth is, we can be greedy for a lot of things. Greed isn’t limited to money and material items. We can be greedy for experiences, too.

I’ll admit to you right now, I can be very greedy when it comes to adventure. I want more. I have a list of places I want to go. I don’t like to spend money, but if I’m going to, I’d rather spend it on a new experience.

The problem is, no matter what you’re greedy for— whether it’s money, food, clothing, shoes, or adventure—it’s not going to fulfill you. 

We tend to look to those things for fulfillment, because let’s face it. If you’ve got a full wallet, belly, closet, and photo album, what more could you need from life? That should be enough, right? Doesn’t that fit in well with our world’s standards of success and fulfillment?

Yes, it fits in with what the world says will make you happy. But no, it’s not enough.

The first Bible verse that comes to my mind is Matthew 6:19:21. Jesus said, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Money passes away. Food spoils. Clothes go out of style. Memories of past adventures fade with time.

If we make those things our treasures, our hearts will not be fulfilled. We’ll be left disappointed and unsatisfied.

Only in Jesus Christ can we find true contentment. For if our treasure is in Him, our hearts will find contentment.

So this one’s for the unfulfilled adventurer—or really, for anyone who feels unfulfilled in a particular pursuit.

Know you won’t ever find contentment in the things of this world. Not even in experiences. True life is found in Christ alone.

And never forget… you are onederfully created by Him who gives you life.
