I’ve been following along with Jordan Lee Dooley, a Christian content creator (she writes and podcasts and blogs and does a whole bunch of other neat things, too), for about a year now. I love Jordan’s authenticity and her ability to connect with her community—she’s so real that sometimes I can hardly believe I’m not friends with her in real life. And I am so honored to be part of the launch team for her very first book, Own Your Everyday: Overcome the Pressure to Prove and Show Up for What You Were Made to Do.

As part of Jordan’s launch team, I got the chance to read an advanced copy of OYE. And seriously, girls—this is one you don’t want to miss out on. Jordan’s message of owning your everyday is one I think we all need to embrace. The message, for me at least, was this: we don’t have to feel pressured do all the things. Instead, we can go through our day-to-day lives in freedom, loving God and loving people however that might look for us in that moment. Purpose isn’t something we have to search for. It’s something that’s found in who we are. As Jordan writes, “Your purpose is not your job title or career path or any other means of influence. Those are simply avenues for living out the God-given purpose you already have.”

There’s more to the book than just that, obviously. Jordan talks about imposter syndrome, disappointment, shame, insecurity, comparison, perfectionism, people-pleasing, distraction, and how we can overcome these things in order to live in freedom and purpose. She is vulnerable about her struggles. OYE feels less like a book and more like a conversation with a dear friend—and I don’t say that lightly.

But really, the message of OYE is important because it’s one that I think is missing right now in our culture, and even in Christian culture. How often do we pressure ourselves to be and do all things? How often do we try to please everyone at once? How often do we obsess over our past and our future without being truly present in the everyday moments?

Jordan writes, “Take the pressure off yourself to be somebody and open your door to the somebodies in front of you.”

I want that for my life, and I want it for yours too, friend. Take the pressure off! You don’t have to be somebody you’re not. You don’t have to constantly look to the next thing. You don’t have to be paralyzed by fear of failure, or comparison, or any of those other things that are holding you back. Just open your door to whoever is in front of you.

Own your everyday. Be there in the small moments in your life. And, as Jordan writes, “Please don’t be so obsessed with figuring out your dreams that you overlook the opportunity to live like the girl you see in your dreams right now—the girl who is compassionate, confident, joyful, secure in her identity, and able to influence people wherever she goes. Live like that now, before it’s all figured out.”

By the way friend, never forget… you are onederfully created.

Love,
Becca
