With Hurricane Florence making landfall this week, I read many calls to action on social media to pray for our neighbors on the east coast.
I believe in prayer. Prayer is powerful. But sometimes, I struggle to know how exactly to pray when I’m praying for people I don’t really know personally.
How do you pray for those affected by natural disasters like Hurricane Florence?
How do you pray for people you may or may not even know? How do you pray for so many different families who are being affected in so many different ways by a natural disaster? Where do you even begin?
Here are eight of my prayers for those who are or have been in the path of Hurricane Florence. These general but heartfelt prayers can be applied to other natural disasters, as well.
I pray…
1. That those affected by Hurricane Florence would find their sweetest moments with Jesus, even in moments of loss and devastation.
2. That they would experience great kindness from strangers near and far.
3. That they would feel comforted, even when material comforts are completely lacking.
4. That they would have peace in their hearts, even when much of the immediate future is unknown.
5. That God would generously give them joy in the midst of tragedy; that there would be moments of laughter to break up the tears, and smiles to break up the furrowed brows.
6. That communities would become more tightly knit in times of adversity.
7. That they would know from the depths of their souls that God is with them, and that they would sense the nearness of their Creator, even when their world feels broken.
8. That they would cling to the truth that they are wonderfully created children of God.
And my prayer for you, my friend, is the same, regardless of whether or not you are in the path of a hurricane. Never forget… you are onederfully created in Christ.
Love,
Becca
Another good one is that they can feel the strong loving arms of God around them and know He is in control.
Brenda, that’s a great prayer… thank you for sharing and adding that to the list! 🙂
