Paul the Apostle has a pretty amazing story. He transformed from one of the worst persecutors of the Christian church to an incredible missionary who wrote about a third of the New Testament we treasure today.
One of my favorite parts of Paul’s letters are the prayers he includes for the church. Paul is constantly thanking God for the church, and encouraging followers to persevere in the strength of Jesus Christ.
Even though in these letters Paul addressed certain churches and sometimes specific individuals, his prayers still speak truth into our hearts. Here are seven of my favorite prayers from Paul’s letters. May you find encouragement and the strength to move forward in Paul’s words today.
Romans 15:5-6
“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Ephesians 3:16-19
“I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”
Philippians 4:23
“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.”
Colossians 1:3-4
“We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people—”
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.”
2 Thessalonians 1:11-12
“With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
“May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.”
