As a follow-up to my “5 Things I Can’t Do with One Arm” post, I thought I’d give you five things I can do with one arm – things you probably can’t do if you have two arms. Having one arm is pretty cool… just saying!

1. I can draw a face on my little arm and name it Hermie.

Some kids have imaginary friends. When I was a kid, I had Hermie.

Hermie was the name I came up with for my little arm. I’d draw eyes on the end of my arm and make him talk. Though an odd method, Hermie actually was quite effective in lightening the mood and making new friends.

2. I can do a fantastic impression of Winnie the Pooh.

If you’ve never watched Winnie the Pooh, just skip this point. You won’t get it.

If you have watched it, do you remember the way Pooh says, “Think, think, think” while he taps the side of his head with his arm when he is deep in thought? Yeah. I can do that too.

3. I can get a discount on manicures.

I don’t get manicures very often, but when I do, it sure doesn’t hurt to ask if I can get half-off the regular price. It only seems fair, right?

4. I can sleep on my side without cramping up my arm.

Seth (my husband) isn’t a complainer, but if he sleeps on his side, he often gets pain in his arm or shoulder. I also sleep on my side, but I don’t have to worry about sleeping wrong on my arm.

Why? I always sleep on my right side. Convenient, right?

5. I can praise Jesus for making me different!

Okay, so this point doesn’t exclusively apply to me having one arm. In fact, it applies to all of us.

We are all fearfully and wonderfully made. We are all created with purpose. We are all different – we have different gifts, different passions, different body types and different hair colors. And we can all praise our wonderful Creator for making us different.

This is what I tell the students I work with all the time, but think about it: the world sure would be boring if we were all exactly the same.

So never forget… you are a onederfully created child of God.

Love,
Becca
